When you are trying to learn poker, tips on poker are important as you can’t learn if you don’t have any tips your opponents will be given. Well there are some general tips on poker that should help you improve your game.
- Any time you see a pro on TV make a comment on one of their hands, you can assume they know their opponent is watching them and they are trying to get them to make a decision.
- Study your opponents. You can never learn if your opponent is trying to get you to fold your hand if you never look at it. Even when you don’t see your opponents’ cards, if you pay attention to them, you can see what cards they draw and if they are consistent, so you know when to fold or stay in.
- Know your position at the table. This is important because the dealer is in ” early” position which means you are the first to bet. Since all the big blinds are posted in ” early” position, the bet in front of you is often a bluff to try and get a little more money into the pot. Since you are the first one to bet, a lot of players give a lot of value to their hands in early position. Knowing what position you are in and how others factor that in is very important on how to play poker better.
- The Egp88. The blinds are forced bets placed in the pot before you can see your cards. Generally, the small blind and big blind are posted in early position while the button is in late position. The big blind acts first throughout the hand while the button typically does after the flop. Since the big blind is often a big stack player that needs to act first, they are forced to be more aggressive and try to steal the blinds. Since the button is a little more comfortable in late position, you can be more aggressive and raise with your big hands.
- Re-raise preflop. You want to try to steal the blinds whenever you can. Most players are not going to call a raise when you have a pocket pair. By raising preflop, you can make the pot bigger because your opponents may have to have a hand in order to call. Also, when you have a good hand, and especially if it’s a high pocket pair, you can force players out of the hand since players tend to be conservative when low cards are on the board.
- Know when to play your hand. Flush draws are hard to play because they are so rare. So-so hands should be played more conservatively. It’s fine to play AKs and AQs in late position, but you want to make a similar sized raise when someone re-raises you. When you have a flush draw, you need a 7 on the board and someone else to be willing to put in another bet to force you to hit your hand.
- Change it up. After you have a big hand, you’ll have a weak hand and can be more likely to be called. So-so hands can be played in many different situations. You’ll need to be comfortable turning so many types of hands into cash. The point of the oval table is that you want to have a lot of options. You don’t want to have to wait for a very good hand to get in the pot.
- Don’t go on tilt. This common poker myth keeps players from igaying around in tournaments and cash games. Bad beats lose all the verifiable money you have put in the pot. You can’t control the odds of the cards falling your way, but you can always play your hand in a different way. If you have a lot of poor hands and you think you are beat, throw away all the money you have put in and start over with a new stack.
